PolyWeave Patient Specific Slings …
… protecting patients against cross infection
The PolyWeave patient specific sling is a high quality, yet disposable sling that allows nurses and caregivers to assign a sling to an individual and specific patient for their patient handling and lifting needs during their stay. This isolated use of the patient sling reduces and controls the existence, growth and proliferation of any potential contamination between patients, providing a preferred hygienic alternative to traditional sling types.
Disposable, yet designed for reuse (even when wet!)
The sling is designed to be disposed of at the end of the patient’s stay, or if it should become excessively soiled. Unlike other disposable slings that are available, PolyWeave slings can be used after becoming wet. This means that they are safe to use in a hygiene environment such as a bath or shower room. It also means that minor soiling can be spot-cleaned with water and detergent.
Additional strength and safety
With a safe working load of 300kg (47 stone) you have the assurance that these patient specific slings will be reusable time and time again. Our XL and XXL sizes have a safe working load of 500kg thereby extending the concept to bariatric patients and providing a safe lift for even the heaviest of patients.
No compromise on comfort
You have to feel a PolyWeave sling to appreciate that comfort is not compromised for the patient. Our slings are made from fabric rather than paper, and are padded for extra support and comfort. Many patients find them more comfortable than the traditional reusable slings they had before.
Taking infection control seriously
Outbreaks of MRSA (Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus) and C.diff (Clostridium difficile) in hospitals have dominated much of the press headlines recently, but a positive outcome of this has been the increased awareness of the need for infection control.
Introducing patient specific disposable slings has been a logical choice for many infection control nurses. By doing so, you can both increase levels of infection control and improve the availability of slings. Even when patients are in hospital for less than a week, and the sling is disposed of on discharge, the PolyWeave slings are very cost efficient and make perfect business and clinical sense.
Facts about MRSA and C.diff
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) is a type of bacteria that is resistant to certain antibiotics. Staph infections, including MRSA, occur most frequently among persons in hospitals and healthcare facilities (such as nursing homes and dialysis centres) who have weakened immune systems.
C. diff (Clostridium difficile) is spread by the over-growth of clostridiumdifficile spores, usually due to antibiotic therapy (antibiotics kill all bacteria in the intestines, allowing this one to overgrow). It can also be spread by hands – direct or indirect contact with contaminated surfaces.
